Jon Cooper is the President. He ran out his term limits as a Suffolk County Legislator from Huntington. He just announced a new venture (related to his existing business) that involves producing a dye that is soluable with oils, and can be traced by ultra-violet light. This is a safety product mainly aimed at the mining industry. Apparently a lot of miners get hit with high pressure hydraulic fluids when hydraulic hoses break. This product will be manufactured here on Long Island, and the hiring of Veterans is a priority for them. I will be calling Jon to get more info.

Long Island Veterans Initiative at Farmingdale BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN VETERANS AND VETERAN SERVICES

Farmingdale, NY

On March 7th, Farmingdale State College Veterans Services will be hosting Long Island Veterans Initiative at Farmingdale (LIVI@F) for the launch of our new, multi-faceted program that will transform veteran support and improve connections between returning veterans and existing resources. The program is called “LI HEATS UP” – Long Island Heroes Empowerment and Transitional Support – United Platform.

LI HEATS UP is the brainchild of the founding partners of LIVI@F. Through a strategic alliance between Farmingdale State College and Veterans Entrepreneurial Development Initiative, Inc. (VEDI), LIVI@F was formed to unify existing programs and services in order to better address the needs of underserved Long Island veterans.

“Being in the domestic trenches working with veterans brought the point home for me that current programs are in dire need of a comprehensive, collaborative support program to assist our returning heroes, both through short-term emergencies as well as long-term situations,” states Meta J. Mereday, Founder of VEDI, Inc. and Co-Founder of LIVI@F. “Although we celebrate our heroes with parades and salutes quite well, we barely scratch the surface when it comes to effectively addressing the growing rates of unemployment, business failure, emotional trauma and suicide among our veterans. LI HEATS UP is a program that is designed to be flexible, compassionate, inclusive and effective.”

Mereday, an award-winning journalist and veterans advocate, has years of experience working with grassroots organizations. Her efforts continue to help change the dynamic of veteran support here at home, especially on Long Island.

“Most people do not know that Long Island has the largest contingent of veterans in New York State. There is an extensive population of underserved veterans in the region and they deserve the support of a program that connects the resources available to them in a way that makes them more effective and easier to use. LI HEATS UP accomplishes this through its uniquely modern digital approach.”

LIVI@F would like as many organizations as possible to attend the platform launch on March 7th in Roosevelt Hall on the Farmingdale State College campus and become a part of planning for the future of veteran services on Long Island. We are looking for organizations and local businesses that want to be a part of LI HEATS UP to come down to Farmingdale State College for this event so that together we can plan a course forward to better meet the needs of veterans on Long Island. If your business or organization would like to become a part of creating a better future for thousands of Long Island veterans, please contact us at (516) 230-2130 or email us any time at worktogether@liveteransinitiative.com
